Originally, we founded Exchanged as “Exchanged Church”.
In Scripture, the Greek word ekklesia is translated as church. Scripture uses ekklesia in two ways: first to describe the one unified church (Matthew 16:18, Ephesians 1:22-23, Ephesians 5:25) and second, to describe a local body (Matthew 18:17, 1 Corinthians 1:2, Galatians 1:2).
Sadly, in the secular world we live in, the term “church” has drifted from the original meanings and has been co-opted by many non-Biblical organizations. To distinguish ourselves from the cultural use of “church” and focus all our efforts on becoming worthy members of the Biblical Universal Church, we have dropped “Church” from our name. We refer to our members as a “congregation” instead of a church. We refer to the overall organization simply as “Exchanged”.
We appreciate this might introduce confusion into the conversation, but it also gives us an opportunity to share the Biblical truth of a singular unified Church described in the Bible.
There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.
Ephesians 4:4-6“I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word;that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me.
John 17:20-21For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12:12-13
Because we operate in a secular environment, we occasionally use the term “church”. For example, our website domain and our legal company name reflect the church designation. The IRS does not handle ambiguity well.
